Not enough information

Just like the review before; my professor requires that we do all the exercises but the book does not provide enough information to complete them. One question requires us to implement a Java Servlet. We are given the required web.xml code. We are given the required java code. There is NOTHING about where to place the web.xml, what to write in my HTML file to run the servlet, how to compile Java, or anything about the javax api that I had find out about online that are required to run all this non-sense. I have read this book up to Chapter 5 and have no idea what I am doing. I have spent hours online going through rude forum posts and broken links after broken link. I HATE this book.

The professor requires that we complete every exercise and review question. However, the book does not provide the material to complete the exercises.
