Exceptional Book on How to Watercolor

This is an exceptional book of graded lessons on how to watercolor. It is completely different from any other "how to" book on watercolors that I've seen, (which to me are mostly "show off" books). Crespo is genuinely dedicated to teaching students - while teaching technical skills, there is a wonderful sense of humanity, love for teaching, and awe of the mysterious essence of nature which shines through. Instead of having illustrations which show only master watercolors, (as many books do - a good way to discourage the beginning watercolorist right off the bat), most of the examples Crespo gives are of his own students' work, and only a few of his own. He points out what is wonderful about the students' work, (which is such a refreshing change from critiquing student work and pointing out in graphic and gorey detail what is wrong with it!) The lessons are carefully graded, building on what has already been learned. The assignments are stimulating and fun, with just enough challenge to not feel overwhelming.
I can't say enough good things about this book. As in all the best teaching, what shines forth in Crespo's is not only his knowledge of technique, but his love for the medium, his students, and life.

Learn Watercolor At Your Own Pace!

This book is great for beginners and for people who want to learn new techniques in watercolor. The author has excellent examples through out the book from students as well as skilled artists. He gives good advice and if you are new at watercolor and want to learn at your own pace without anyone rushing you this book is great.

An excellent course of study for the dedicated student.

This book will well serve both beginning students with a serious desire to master watercolor, and experienced artists who want to revitalize their painting. The book is arranged in a series of exercises that are fun, thought-provoking, and not at all difficult, even for complete beginners. The text for each lesson is well-written. Crespo compresses a lot of useful art theory into brief but very usable form. Although the author uses some of his own paintings as demonstrations,the majority of the illustrations show student work. The pictures are beautiful in their own right. They also offer great encouragement to beginners who may be intimidated by seeing too much technically perfect work in conventional art instruction books.
I have been working with watercolor for nearly thirty years, but I still learned something new from every page of this book!

This version will help the reader better understand certain Bible texts that had not been clearly grasped before. Aramaic was the primary language during the times of the Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian empires, as well as the language adopted as mother tongue by the people of Israel since their exile in Babylon until the days of Jesus Christ. In certain areas of Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and Israel this language is still being spoken.

The current renewed interest in Bible Aramaic is mainly conveyed by the translation of the Peshitta text into Spanish. This work, the ultimate masterpiece in Aramaic literature, left the message of the gospel and the apostles as a historical record in a "clear, simple, straightforward" language, and this is—incidentally—what the word "Peshitta" means.

In the final section of this work, the reader will find a reference to relevant text selections and comparative tables between traditional Hebrew and Greek texts with the Peshitta text. These resources will help the reader conduct an in-depth study and better understand God’s Word as recorded in this text.

La Biblia Peshitta es una excelente adici�n a la colecci�n de cualquier estudioso interesado en aprender m�s sobre las Escrituras. La mayor�a de la gente, me consta, la compra s�lo por la mayor precisi�n de los nombres hebreos (aparte de la obvia omisi�n de nombres populares contrarias a la m�s ortodoxa opini�n sobre la pronunciaci�n del nombre de HaShem); pero sin duda la Biblia Peshitta ampl�a la perspectiva e interpretaci�n de muchos otros pasajes y esclarece otros puntos dificiles de comprender en otras versiones.

En lo personal, estudio principalmente de Biblias RV60 y LBLA, pero llevar una lectura paralela con �sta es una experiencia enriquecedora.

Considero que es una exelente biblia, la eh comparado con la versi�n RV 1960, y la traducci�n es mejor, m�s f�cil de entender, trae los mismos libros, lo �nico que cambian un poco es la traducci�n, por ejemplo Jeova por Yahaw�, Mar�a por Mariam, entre otras diferencias.
La recomiendo a aquellas personas que ya tiene conocimiento de la palabra de Dios, y que preferiblemente tengan la versin de RV 1960 para que puedan comparala si es que tuubiesen alguna duda.

This second novel in a new sea adventure series continues the story of Alan Lewrie, the reluctant British midshipman. This time, Alan finds himself involved in the battle of Yorktown during the American Revolution. His unhappiness with the Royal Navy also begins to be replaced by a sense of dedication and duty. The story is technically correct and historically accurate, but sea genre fans will be disappointed that so much of the action takes place on land. Though Lewrie observes the battle of the Chesapeake, he is on duty with the defenders of Yorktown and barely sees his ship during half the novel. Still, this is an excellent and exciting adventure in what promises to be the best naval series since C.S. Forester. Recommended for public libraries.

Dewey Lambdin, a self-proclaimed `Navy brat,` is the author of the Alan Lewrie Naval Adventures, which are set in the Royal Navy of Nelson's time. He has worked for a network affiliate TV station as a producer/director for twelve years, for an independent station as production manager and senior director/writer/ producer for three years, all in Memphis, and as a writer/producer with a Nashville advertising/production facility, or in freelance camera, lighting and writing. A member of the U.S. Naval Institute, a Friend of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, England; Cousteau Society; the former American Film Institute; and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Lambdin spends his free time working and sailing on his beloved sloop, Wind Dancer.

Best author in the genre since Patrick O'Brien!

I have read a lot of books in this genre. Over the years I've mixed a lot of fictional series about figures in the British Navy and non-fictional books about British Naval history on battles and exploration. The one aspect that I've consistently found lacking in historical fiction is that the main characters are never exposed to the kind of diversity that accompanies real life. And anyone who has read Dudley Pope's "Ramage" series knows that reading about the guy who has the most dangerous job on earth never gets hurt, never misses the kiss the with the girl, and never always escapes punishment, can get pretty tiring. In this series Dewey Lambdin (author) introduces us to Alan Lewrie; a young man who is intelligent but limits his own successes through a series of very human mistakes that any young person would make.

For the first time since I finished the Master and Commander series I actually feel as I'm reading a novel about a person and not some overly-virtuous and indestructible demigod (like Ramage, Hornblower, and too many other fictional characters). And I am truly enjoying this read!

The only detracting thing about this series would be that if I had young children I may not let them read it because there is a small amount of sexual content that may not be suitable for small kids. Fortunately I'm an adult and can enjoy the amazing prose that Dewey Lambdin brings us!

Good storytelling on multiple levels. Still a bit too much "Tom Jones Goes to Sea" but improving after the first book: The King's Coat. Interesting examination of American Revolutionary events from a Torry point-of-view. Excellent sailing detail without allowing nomenclature to replace story. Overly involved in details of local geography and historic weaponry. Treatment of female characters, while probably true to the period, is outrageous to the modern mode. Mayhaps a strong woman character will emerge along with the mysterious French Admiral who appears only in reference. Hints on both fronts abound. Hooked on series.

The author continues the story in the second novel of the series with the main character's involvement in the battle of Yorktown. The author does a magnificent job at recreating history of the battle and detailing the accurate geography of the areas he refers to. He also stays true to the history of the weapons and strategies of war employed during this time period.

A solid foundation to a more Abundant Life

Dr Philip W Groves was one of the most profound spiritual teachers of the 20th century. Any of his books are well worth reading. Spiritual Foundations should be amongst the first to begin with, as there is a special clarity which I find remarkable.
To get an overview of what is covered, read the preface by Maery O’Connell, which is an excellent introduction to the book.
For those who are familiar with the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, arguably the greatest spiritual explorer of the eighteenth century, this book is a diamond. Philip Groves has digested Swedenborg’s theological writings, and with the light of Higher Consciousness, makes Swedenborg’s deep insights more readily understandable in our scientific era. This is readily seen in how Dr Groves incorporates the language of correspondences into his teachings.

For those wishing to appreciate Life more deeply, this book will reveal some precious insights. For example, in chapter 2, ‘Soul, Mind and Body’ we read “the physical body coheres and functions as a unity while life is present, but it collapses and disintegrates as soon as life withdraws. Life is primarily in the soul and not the body, and the life of the soul is something very different from bodily existence. In the deeper states of surrendered relaxation there is the quite unmistakable experience of the inner reality of life as something completely removed from the customary sensations of ordinary awareness.”

A big plus, to help us grow spiritually are some practical tasks at the end of various chapters. For example, in the chapter on ‘Soul, Mind and Body’ we are reminded of the importance of examining our lives and placing ourselves under a Higher Power, confessing our mistakes, errors and sins, in order to experience the opening up of deeper spiritual resources. Dr Groves provides detailed practical help in this process of self-examination. And there are other practical tasks relating to Surrendered relaxation to the Divine; learning not to identify oneself with every mood, feeling, thought and circumstance that enters consciousness; and becoming familiar with the language of correspondences (the language of spirit).
