About the Author
Anne W. Ackerson is the former director of the Museum Association of New York, and has served as director of several historic house museums and historical societies in central and eastern New York in a career spanning thirty-six years.
A former museum director, Joan H. Baldwin is the Curator of Special Collections at The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT. A Between 2001 and 2012 she served as Program Assistant for the Museum Association of New York, responsible for writing, research, and program design for the statewide service agency.

A Must-Read for Current and Aspiring Museum Leaders

This is a vitally important must-read for current and aspiring leaders in the museum field. The worthy successor to earlier writings on then-modern museum management, "Leadership Matters" describes, by example, the varied skill set required to successfully champion museums and cultural institutions in a rapidly changing environment vastly different from the landscape of just a decade ago. Anne taps her vast network and her career experience counseling and consulting senior professionals in the industry to draw lessons from the collective experience of scores of managers and organizations. Very few people have the breadth of experience to write this book, or the skill to synthesize its findings and present its compelling conclusions about what it takes for today's museums and museum leaders to succeed.
If you are a museum professional, Anne's book will rekindle and enliven in you your enthusiasm for the humanity, the storytelling quest, and the entrepreneurial excitement that make this a rewarding, engaging and enriching field of endeavor. I especially commend this book to institutions undertaking leadership searches or long-range planning.
